Health and Safety

  • This qualification is designed for those learners either currently working or those returning or starting work and wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification in health and safety.

    The objective of the qualification is to:

    • prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training

    The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the main responsibilities of employees and employers with regards to health and safety. It also provides an understanding of how the workplace can affect health and safety.

  • This qualification is designed to provide learners with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace.

    The objective of the qualification is to:

    • prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training

    • Support a role in the workplace

    The qualification provides learners with an understanding in the responsibilities of employers and employees, the benefits of good health and safety, steps to a risk assessment and how they can reduce accidents, near misses and ill-health, typical hazards and controls in a workplace, common causes of accidents, near misses and ill-health, emergency procedures and the importance of recording accidents, near misses and ill-health.

Mental Health

  • The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners to progress to a qualification in another subject area and/or to give learners personal growth and engagement in learning, specifically in relation to understanding the basic principles of mental health.

    This qualification can be taken by learners preparing to enter employment or by those who are already in employment and wish to develop their knowledge of mental health.

    This is a knowledge-only qualification that provides underpinning knowledge and understanding in relation to mental health, mental ill health and wellbeing.

  • The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners to progress to a qualification in another subject area and/or to give learners personal growth and engagement in learning, specifically in relation to understanding the principles of mental health and mental illnesses.

    This qualification can be taken by learners in any occupation and is not specific to the health or care sector. It is suitable for learners who are likely to come into contact with individuals who may have mental ill health or a diagnosed mental illness in their work or everyday life, including the Police, paramedics, HR staff or social/recreation group leaders.

    This is a knowledge-only qualification that covers knowledge and understanding in relation to mental health, mental illnesses, signs and symptoms and also how to support those with mental ill health. It includes units on different illnesses as well as units on professional conduct, therapeutic communication, and how to support mental ill health in children and young people or adults with learning disabilities.

  • The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace and/or to give learners personal growth and engagement in learning, specifically in relation to understanding the principles of first aid for mental health.

    The role of a first aider for mental health is to provide basic mental health support or to be the first response to someone in need, usually in the workplace.

    The first aider for mental health is not clinically qualified to assess, diagnose or treat mental ill health but they will know the basic tools to listen to individuals who require first response support for their mental health. This qualification can be taken by learners preparing to enter employment or by those who are already in employment.

    This is a knowledge-only qualification that provides underpinning knowledge and understanding of the principles of first aid for mental health. This includes recognising mental ill health in self and others, supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace, understanding how to promote a wellness culture in the workplace and the importance of resilience and self-care for first aiders for mental health.

Risk Assessment

  • The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners to progress into further/higher level training and is designed to provide learners with an awareness of the benefits of risk assessment in any environment.

    The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the responsibilities of employers; the main causes and costs of work-related fatalities, injuries and ill-health; the role of risk assessment in the prevention of accidents and ill-health; the requirements of a risk assessment; a process for undertaking a risk assessment; and a method to evaluate risk.

  • The objective of the qualification is to support a role in the workplace as a risk assessor.

    This qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility to conduct risk assessments at low risk premises. It covers the principles of risk assessment, the relationship between hazard and risk and requires learners use the knowledge learned on the course by undertaking a risk assessment.

    Therefore, laying a foundation for further development as a risk assessor.

COSHH

  • This qualification is aimed at learners who have access to any environment where coming into contact with hazardous substances is likely. This includes workplaces in areas such as manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities and office environments as well as classroom environments.

    The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to recognise the risks associated with hazardous substances and how to control them.

    The objective of the qualification is predominantly to support a role in the workplace, however may also be suitable for younger learners preparing for employment or wishing to progress onto further learning in a related subject.

Fire Safety

  • The objective of this qualification is to support learners in any workplace, particularly new starters, where a basic understanding of fire safety is required.

    Learners gaining this qualification will know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace. They will recognise the common causes of fire and identify actions to take in the event of a fire.

  • This qualification is aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety who are based in any area where there is a potential risk of fire.

    Learners gaining this qualification will know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone and will recognise the causes of fire as well as knowing common hazards, the steps in a fire risk assessment and how to reduce the likelihood of fires.

    The objective of the qualification is predominantly to support a role in the workplace, however, may also be suitable for younger learners preparing for employment or wishing to progress onto further learning in a related subject.

Conflict Management

  • This Level 2 Award in Conflict Management (RQF) has been developed to meet the requirements of individuals who require training in conflict management.

    The objective of the qualification is to:

    • Support a role within the workplace, especially those that have a customer facing role and deal with service users and/or the public; and

    • Provides learners personal growth and engagement in learning

    The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and understanding in conflict management. It can also be a useful qualification for individuals who would like a better understanding of how to prevent conflict situations, and who would like to gain more confidence in being able to deal with conflict situations should they arise.
