This allows the holder to work within Licenced premises where alcohol is being sold for consumption, Licenced Events and use Physical intervention in response to civil offences and indictable offences. You are allowed to wear a body camera to gather images of public spaces but you are not allowed to view or review any footage obtained.

This allows the holder to work within a CCTV control room and use the CCTV system for view, review and produce evidential copies of footage obtained lawfully and in line with its intended purpose.

This allows the holder to work in the capacity of a security officer within a retail environment, it allows the holder to wear a body camera but cannot view or review any footage. This licence also limits where the holder can work. They are not allow to work in any environment where alcohol is being sold for consumption.

This allows the holder to work in the capacity of personal protection (A Bodyguard), due to the length and details of the course a Licenced Close Protection Operator can do all of the above, other than a CCTV Operator

Applying for a SIA Licence
Apply for your Licence on the SIA website -
Before applying for an SIA licence, it’s essential to prepare and ensure you meet all requirements to avoid losing your application fee, which is non-refundable.
What You Need to Prepare:
Ensure you have the means to pay the licensing fee: £184.00 (This fee is half price if you are applying for a second licence, this does not apply to licence renewals.
Identity Verification: Provide documents proving your identity.
Address History: Submit details of your addresses over the last 5 years. If you’re in the UK, your current address will be automatically checked.
Age Requirement: You must be 18 or older.
Qualifications: Obtain the necessary licence-linked qualification for front-line roles like security guarding or CCTV operation. Non-front line roles do not require this qualification.
Criminal Record Check: Pass a criminal record check, including providing overseas records if you’ve lived abroad for 6 months or more in the past 5 years.
Right to Work: You must have the right to work in the UK. SIA will verify this with the Home Office if you’re not a UK citizen.
Mental Health: Disclose any compulsory mental health measures within the last 5 years. You may need to provide a medical report from a healthcare professional.
